Vizio 2019 website

As a retainer client for Envoy, Vizio tasks the team to re-imagined its website every year. The main goal for the 2019 redesign was to introduce new partnerships and products. My role consisted of designing the partner and premium product pages.

The Approach

To redesign the website and create both a quantifiably and qualitatively improved experience, a unified approach using data, empathy, and Vizio goals was leveraged. The data provided clear insights as to what areas needed improvement in terms of usability. Empathy helped us focus on user frustration with the current website, as well as illuminated what was most important to the current Vizio customer. Vizio had the goal of creating something bold and refreshing for the brand, specifically with an emphasis on showcasing their latest product offerings.

Data + Empathy

By uncovering trends and insights from the data provided by the analytics teams and qualitative feedback from users, we structured the information architecture. We focused on creating a clear stream of information that would clearly convey Vizio’s new value proposition and how they aligned with customer goals. Once the information architecture was defined it was utilized to guide the construction of wireframes. Being a redesign this was an area where we brought in some old components, both because they were working well and to save on development and timing resources. Other components were completely tossed to start fresh and improve the troubled areas. My role was to review the wireframes and further refine them wherever appropriate.

Empathy + Vizio Goals

With the right information in the right spot, it was time to define the visual language. The goal when designing the partner and premium product pages was to create a visual experience that triggered an emotional response and would be easily retrieved from the viewers memory. For the premium products I decided to define a visual concept that emphasized the newest features such as wider color range, an ultra bright display and intense contrast. For the partner relationship I chose to emphasize partner content and how Vizio fit into the partner product ecosystem. This aligned perfectly with Vizio’s goal of making a bigger statement in the way their products are represented as well as push the boundaries of their brand. On this portion of the project I was responsible for the art direction and 3D renders.

Vizio Goals + Data

Merging the wireframes with the defined visual language was the third step. It was during this phase that we explored various interactions and the UI to help further communicate the concepts and features. I defined the components and brought them together will the renders to create a functional and engaging experience. Once design was complete they were implemented onto the website where data collecting and user feedback continued for further insights. My role during this step was to completely design the pages, combining the interactions from the wireframes, designing the interactions and components and bring it all together for the final design. After the first round of review with Vizio they wanted to take components and visual aspects of the design direction for the partner and premium product pages and apply them to the entire site.
